UX Writing: Upgrade pop-up
Client: GuerillaBox
Work: Pop-up with error message about upgrade
CHALLENGE
After connecting the mailing list, WhatsApp, and phone number for SMS, the user tries to connect their Facebook Messenger inbox. However, the user is on the free plan which only allows for 3 boxes (remember, communication channels are called ‘boxes’ at GuerillaBox). My job is to design a pop-up error message.
Points to consider:
-
Paying users can have unlimited boxes.
-
Premium accounts start at only $10 a month.
-
Users may be disappointed since they’ll likely want more than 3 boxes. Encourage them to upgrade, but stay on brand and match their mood.
-
Remind the user of all of their options to add their Facebook Messenger account.
-
GuerillaBox offers a 14-day free trial of the premium account.
SOLUTION
Use visual to compare the free plan and premium plan, highlighting the benefits of premium plans.
-
Upgrading to a premium plan is like having a GuerillaBox with a black hole. Users can add unlimited boxes after upgrading!
-
Use information hierarchy to nudge users choosing the upgrade button. (upgrade button is more prominent)
-
Keep essential info on screen only for easy scannability
